Six new recipients will aim for a better future as scholars of the Catanduanes Medicine and Law Scholarship and Return Service Program (CMLSRSP) being implemented by the provincial government.
The incoming scholars, accompanied by their parents and guardians, signed the Memorandum of Agreement with Governor Patrick Alain T. Azanza at the Capitol Dome last July 8, 2026 in the presence of some provincial board members and PLGU officials.
The Medicine scholars for this year’s batch are Lyra Kassandra Molina Borja of San Vicente, Virac; Joanna Marie Gianan Ordoña of Sta. Cruz, Virac; and Ailah Marie Arcilla Tabilog of Calatagan Tibang, Virac.
The daughter of Santiago and Irene Borja, Lyra Kassandra graduated magna cum laude at the University of the Philippines Los Baños with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology and will enroll at UP Manila.
Ordoña, the daughter of Anthony Ordoña and the late public school teacher Joji Gianan Ordoña, was a full scholar of Ateneo de Manila University in BS Biology (Bio Medical Sciences) when she graduated as Honorable Mention. She will study Medicine at Far Eastern University – Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation.
On the other hand, Aila Marie, whose parents are Mariano Jr. and Aileen Tabilog, recently finished BS Biology as cum laude at the Catanduanes State University and will go to Bicol University College of Medicine.
The new Law scholars are Yshin Panti Sosito, daughter of Remegio and Pamela Sosito of Calatagan Tibang, Virac; Marie Reidelle Ong Averilla, daughter of Maurice and Ma. Edel Averilla of Rawis, Virac; and Rachel Kate Carcido Tabirao, daughter of Jesse and Sharon Tabirao of Banawang, Bato.
All three graduated magna cum laude in AB Political Science at the Catanduanes State University, with Sosito and Tabirao choosing University of Nueva Caceres for their law school and Averilla sticking with her alma mater.
Currently, the CMLSRSP has 36 existing scholars with 22 of them aspiring to be doctors and 14 studying to be lawyers.
The number does not include one Law scholar graduate who completed his Return Service in 2025.
Six graduate scholars are now rendering service to the provincial government: Atty. Rochelle Ann Molina and Atty. Ariadna Mae Tesorero at the Provincial Legal Office; Dr. Christine Bernadette D.V. Sanchez and Dr. Jirah S. Garcia at the Caramoran Municipal Hospital; Dr. Cherry Belle V. Cabrera at Viga District Hospital; and Dr. Michelle D. Vicente at Gigmoto District Hospital.
