The inflation rate for all-income households in the province of Catanduanes for May 2026 slowed down a bit to 6.0 percent, an improvement from the 6.3 percent of April, the Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) reported last week.
While the provincial government has started distributing the P20 per kilo BBM rice, its impact on the inflation rate will be felt in later months, Chief Statistical Specialist Anavi F, Camacho of the PSA Catanduanes Provincial Statistical Office stated.
Provincial Agriculturist Ace William Tria said that in addition to the 1,000 bags of cheap rice being sold this June, the province has an allocation of 5,800 bags until December which would be of great help to the people as the cheapest commercial rice in the market ranges from P45 to P50 per kilo.
In the PSA press conference held June 11, 2026, it was disclosed that the inflation slowdown was mainly due to Transport with 87% share, with inflation dropping from 14.4% to 9.8% thanks to a reduction in fuel costs.
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages as well as Personal Care and Miscellaneous Goods also contributed slightly at a combined 12% share.
On the other hand, the top five contributors to the accelerated inflation were rice, restaurants and cafes, gasoline, electricity, and fish.
Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the Bottom 30% Income Households rose to 7.1% from the previous 6.9%, with the top contributors almost the same as that for all-income households, expect for cigarettes which accounted for 6.9%.
