Abandoned bag yields P217-k in illegal drugs

AN INVENTORY OF THE SLING BAG abandoned along the Virac boulevard and found by two residents last week yields 31 grams of illegal drugs as well as drug paraphernalia.

Virac police probers are now checking CCTV footage along Imelda boulevard in Virac to find leads as to the identity of the person who abandoned a sling bag which later yielded P217,000 worth of illegal drugs.

According to the police, a man and his female companion were riding a tricycle along Imelda boulevard in barangay Francia at around 7:45 AM of Sept. 12 to collect used bottles when they noticed a black sling bag underneath a concrete bench near the warehouse of businesswoman Concepcion Co.

When they opened the bag, they were surprised to find suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia inside it, prompting them to seek help from a police officer friend assigned at the Catanduanes Provincial Police Office.

The woman officer accompanied them in turning over the bag to the Virac police station at 10 AM where its contents were inventoried.

Inside the bag was a black pouch that contained two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets that contained white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

A black coin purse also yielded five more sachets containing the same substance while six other sachets were inside the tote bag.

Also found were non-drug items including two pieces of vape, vape cord, cigarette lighter, a small scissor, tooter, digital weighing scale, Mentos canister, three (3) plastic sachets containing a total of 68 self-sealing plastic sachets, a Penshoppe perfume bottle, white cellphone charger, two glass tooters, and a stainless alcohol lamp.

Laboratory examination of the sample turned up a positive result for the presence of shabu weighing a total of 31.987 grams with an estimated street value of P217,511.60.
