TRIBUNE COLUMNIST IS SALUTE AWARDEE FOR POETRY FOR THE SECOND TIME

Tribune columnist Pablo A. Tariman has been named Philippines Graphic Magazine Salute Awardee for poetry for the second time in the 2024 Nick Joaquin Literary Awards (NJLA) night to be held May 7 at SM Aura.

Tariman is author of a first book of poetry, Love, Life and Loss – Poems During the Pandemic. He was recipient of the same prize for poetry in the 2023 Nick Joaquin Literary Prize.

A first-time Salute Awardee also in the poetry category is his wife, Merlita Lorena Tariman.

Tariman was one of 160 Asian poets all the world selected in the Singapore-published anthology, The Best Asian Poetry 2021-22. His poem, Ode to Frontliners, is now a marker in Plaza Familia in Pasig City unveiled by Mayor Vico Sotto December 30, 2020.

His second book, ENCOUNTERS IN THE ARTS is coming out in July 2024.

In another field, Tariman has covered the performing arts for different publications since 1975.

In the 70s, he wrote music, film, theater and dance reviews for the Manila Bulletin, Daily Express, Expressweek, Celebrity Magazine, TV Times, Times Journal and its sister publication, People Magazine.

In the 90s, he wrote cultural columns, View From The Wing, for the Inquirer Sunday Magazine and Culture Beat for the Manila Chronicle.

He contributes arts profiles, music articles and dance reviews for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star and for the online publications Positively Filipino, Vera Files, The Diarist.Ph and CoverStory.

For his arts reporting for many decades, he was named one of Outstanding Manilenos in the Arts in 2010 by Mayor Alfredo Lim along with National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario and filmmaker Brillante Mendoza and Outstanding Pasigueno in the field of Music.

in 2002 for bringing back live classical music in Pasig City for seven years through the Pasig Museum Summer Music Festival Concert Series.

He was member of the jury of the National Music Competition for Young Artists and the Jovita Fuentes National Voice Competition, among others.

For covering the arts for more than 40 years years, he was recipient of the 2018 Aliw Awards and the 2020 Leaf Awards in the Arts.

For bringing world-class artists to Iloilo City from 2018 to 2022, Tariman was named “Honorary Citizen of Iloilo City” by Mayor Jerry Trenas in the presence of former Sen. Franklin Drilon and University of the Philippines Visayas Chancellor Clement C. Camposano.

He is editor-publisher of the arts publications, Music News and Features now known as the Manila Arts Quarterly.

He was born in Baras, Catanduanes and has six grandchildren.
