A San Andres fisherman has been arrested last week after the police caught him in the act of transporting undocumented sawn lumber.
The report stated that sometime after 10pm of Aug. 6, the San Andres police received a report from a reliable informant regarding the illegal activity.
It immediately launched an operation together with the Catanduanes 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, with the team coming upon the suspect, Alfredo Balagot Gianan Jr., 55, a resident of Codon, while in the act of pulling sawn mahogany lumber at 11:50pm at the seashore.
Seized from him were five flitches with a total volume of 89 board feet and with an estimated market value of P7,120.
Gianan is now detained at the police station pending the filing of a criminal charge against him for violation of Presidential Decree 705 or the Forestry Code of the Philippines.
