Virac police personnel apprehended a quarry helper last Saturday evening after he reportedly hacked a former friend whose wife had a past relationship with the suspect.
Rogelio Pitajen Zafe, 51, a widower residing in barangay Buyo, did not resist when he was arrested the following morning for the hacking of driver Abner Lucos Bustamante, 53, a resident of the nearby village of Tubaon.
Initial investigation disclosed that Zafe had been in a previous relationship with the wife of Bustamante, who was the former’s friend.
The suspect allegedly became jealous, resulting in a heated argument between him and Bustamante whom he later hacked with a bolo.
Barangay tanod Ariel Manigote and the victim’s wife immediately brought the wounded Bustamante to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center (EBMC) for medical treatment while the suspect remains in the custody of the Virac Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
