Echoing the marching orders of Governor Patrick Alain T. Azanza, Catanduanes Police Provincial Director PCol. Virgilio R. Buena has warned chiefs of police and all PNP personnel to take heed of the “no take” and “one-strike” policies in the heightened campaign against all forms of illegal activities.
In last week’s meeting with members of the local media, the island’s top cop said that among the directives issued by the governor is the strict implementation of the “no take” policy in the fight against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, illegal mining and quarrying, and illegal fishing.
He stated that the directive has been communicated to all police chiefs in the 11 towns, who have been reminded of the “one-strike” policy aimed at police personnel who are proven to have neglected their duties and responsibilities.
PCol. Buena also confirmed that there will be a reshuffling of officers and personnel to ensure that his leadership will trust those who will work with him in implementing the programs of the PNP.
The new provincial director added that he would meet with municipal mayors this week as part of his round of courtesy calls and an effort to boost coordination with local government units.
He admitted that a number of personalities have invited him to meetings outside Camp MSg. Francisco Camacho for an undetermined purpose but he politely declined the invitations, telling the concerned individuals to just visit him at his office.
“It’s my first time to be assigned in the Bicol region and I don’t have any personal connection with any of the personalities in Catanduanes before I was installed as provincial director,” he said.
He was assigned in Cagayan de Oro City when he heard of retirement of the former director and applied for the position along with two others.
“I was lucky enough to be chosen by the governor after an interview,” Buena recalled, as he assured that he will be open and transparent to the public and the media in order to bring the police closer to the people.
“I believe without the support of the people, we can do nothing. But with them on our side, we can do everything,” he stated.
