A barangay captain of a coastal village last week turned over a small cylinder containing suspected marijuana to the Virac municipal police station.
In a report, police chief Maj. Kenneth Ding C. Gutierrez said the contraband was turned over to him while he was conducting visits to some barangays and attending council sessions.
Initial investigation stated that barangay tanods discovered the dangerous drug near the shore and the cylinder was probably left by a group of youths who gathered at the area for some recreation.
The tube is now in custody of the local police and will undergo laboratory examination.
The turnover of the suspected marijuana is part of the continuous strengthening of the awareness and knowledge of the community as partners of the police in the campaign against illegal drugs, Maj. Gutierrez said.
In another development, a man wanted by a Metro Manila court for a case of qualified theft was arrested in Baras town last week.
Personnel of the town police station collared the accused in barangay Buenavista at 12:40 PM of Oct. 3, 2025 pursuant to the warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 104 in Quezon City, with the case setting a bail bond of P40,000.00.
He is now detained at the Baras police station for proper disposition prior to being transferred to the Metro Manila court.
The apprehension of the wanted man is part of the ongoing campaign of the Baras MPS headed by Capt. Rhandy R. Rapesora, acting chief of police, against such personalities pursuant to the PNP’s heightened campaign to maintain peace and order in the community.
