Catanduanes marks 77th year on Oct. 26

At least five activities have been penciled in for the celebration of the 77th founding anniversary of the province of Catanduanes this Oct. 24-26, 2022.

According to the Provincial Tourism Office, the schedule of activities has yet to be finalized pending confirmation of the participants in the events.

Sixteen candidates vying for the prestigious titles of Binibining Catandungan 2022 will undergo pre-judging competition at the E-Crown Hotel and Resort this Oct. 19 at 8 PM, just 24 hours after displaying their best during the Talent and Cultural Competition at Virac Town Center on Oct. 18.

The coronation night will be this coming Friday, Oct. 21, at the Provincial Convention Center.

The Catandungan Grand Parade at 6 AM on Monday, Oct. 24, will serve as kick-off event to be participated in by provincial and municipal officials and national government agencies, with national highway from Gogon junction to EBMC to serve as the assembly area.

At the capitol grounds where the opening ceremonies will be held, the three-day Trade and Tourism Fair sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office will be formally opened.

Also opening on Oct. 24 is the three-day Pagkamoot Expo at the capitol lobby, described as a spectacle of love, culture and arts by the sponsoring group, the Catanduanes Event Planners and Suppliers Association (CEPSA).

The second day begins with the much-awaited Padadyaw sa Tinampo, with the street dance commencing at 7AM from Plaza Rizal before ending at the capitol grounds for the Pantomina showdown.

The contest is open to all municipal governments, with each contingent having a minimum of 32 performers dancing to the Pantomina minor popularized by composer Antonio “Tang Tolin” Arcilla.

At 9AM, elementary and high school students will engage in a battle for the championship in the long-running “Sisay Kita” Cultural Quiz Bee at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan session hall.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, the culture and heritage ride Catandungan Moto-Turismo revs off from Imelda Boulevard for the 360-degree tour of the island.

Last Oct. 4-8, the municipal government of Baras held the Majestic Masters Regional Surfing Cup at Puraran beach as a pre-festival event.

In the Open category, Elvis Legazpi of Catanduanes emerged as champion over Onyo Oclares of Daet, Camarines Norte (1st runner-up), Edmond Tanael of Catanduanes (2nd runner-up), and Martin Taniegra of Catanduanes, 3rd runner-up.

Joseila delos Santos of Daet triumphed in the Wahine category over 1st runner-up Edlyn Ermino of Gubat, Sorsogon, 2nd runner-up Ma. Danica Prila of Catanduanes, and 3rd runner-up Irma Huguelet of Catanduanes.

In the Junior category, Emerton Legaspi of Catanduanes was declared champion, followed by 1st runner-up Enrico Estrellado, 2nd runner-up Rodin Espeno, and 3rd runner-up Rey Bakesale,a all from Gubat.

The Grommet category  was ruled by champion Glenn Willis of Catanduane, with 1st runner-up Jack Andy Jhons of Sorsogon, 2nd runner-up Ricky Tating of Catanduanes, and 3rd runner-up Jester Badaguas of Daet.
