Virac BIR slips past ‘21 tax collection goal

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic toll wrought by super typhoon Rolly in late 2020, the Virac Revenue District Office managed to achieve its tax collection goal in 2021.

This was disclosed last week by RDO No. 69 officer-in-charge Modesto Avila Jr., the Assistant Revenue District Officer who took over last Feb. 1, 2022 after the early retirement of RDO Daisy Baroma.

Records show that the district managed to collect a total of P53,009,853.58 in taxes last year, just over two percent above the goal of P543 million set by the BIR national office.

The revenue total is P53 million, or 10.58%, more than the P501 million that Catanduanes taxpayers paid in 2020.

Its notable performance last year appears to have been carried over to 2022 as RDO 69’s tax collection last January totaled P97 million, more than 73 percent over its 2021 collection for the same month.

ARDO Avila said that the district office will continue with its regular activities as it awaits the assignment of a new RDO.

He said that it recently conducted a two-day tax mapping campaign to monitor the compliance of local businesses with tax laws, with the BIR personnel reportedly finding most, if not all, of them abiding by tax regulations, policies and issuances.
