Two schools and six local government units from Catanduanes were among those honored by the Department of Education for their role in last year’s successful implementation of the Brigada Eskwela (BE).
During the 2020 Brigada Eskwela Awarding Ceremony on March 18, 2021 at Sorsogon East Central School, Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma and DepEd Bicol Director Gilbert T. Sadsad expressed their gratitude to all stakeholders and education partners in the Region.
A total of 28 schools and partners weree cited for actively mobilizing resources for the agency’s campaign on ensuring the safety and readiness of schools during the school opening last October 5, 2020.
Comagaycay Elementary School in San Andres town and San Miguel Rural Development High School
The province of Catanduanes and the municipal governments of San Andres, Caramoran, Viga, San Miguel and Bato received the Gold Award for enhancing their partnerships with the schools through passing of resolution or executive order of support from the LGUs, including the institutionalization of the BE Program and provision of funding allocation for BE and Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE LCP).
DepEd has implemented the ‘new version’ of Brigada Eskwela, shifting focus to generating resources for Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) and COVID-19 related interventions.
All these were done together with the support of private organizations and LGUs whose budget were already exhausted in their response to COVID-19 but gave additional allocations to education from their general appropriations,.
Overall, DepEd Bicol has generated a total of ₱1,037,613,636.00 from last year’s Brigada Eskwela with Masbate Province contributing the highest amount among Provincial Divisions at ₱207,540,585.00; and Sorsogon City for City Divisions at ₱242,735,771.00.
In the 2020 Search for the Division Brigada Eskwela Best Implementing Schools, Comagaycay ES took the top spot, followed by Gigmoto Central ES and Guinobatan ES.
In the secondary level, San Miguel RDHS was trailed by Supang-Datag National High School and Caramoran RDHS.
Named as Best Implementing School Heads were Principal Rolly Nazareno of Comagaycay ES and Principal I Maybelle Rubio of San Miguel RDHS.
On the other hand, chosen as Best Implementing Brigada Eskwela Coordinators were Mylene Manlangit of Comagaycay ES and Daniel Manlangit of San Miguel RDHS.
