Const’n worker charged for hacking drinking pal

The Provincial Prosecution Office has filed a case for frustrated homicide against a construction worker in Virac who hacked his drinking partner after a heated argument last week.

After examining the affidavits of witnesses, Prosecutor Francisco Samonte Jr. set aside the original complaint for frustrated murder and recommended the lesser offense and a bail of P72,000 for the provisional liberty of Apolinario Guerrero Tabinas, 55.

According to the police, Noel Guerrero, 49, was having a drinking spree with Tabinas in barangay Casoocan when the altercation erupted between them at about 9:20 P.M. of Feb. 11, 2020.

Guerrero suddenly hacked Tabinas on the forehead, with the latter trying to retaliate using a knife but instead hit the left arm of construction worker Ruben Pantino, 32, as he tried to pacify them.

Tabinas went to his residence and came back armed with a bolo locally known as “manasbad” and proceeded to Guerrero’s house where he hacked the victim on the different parts of his body several times. Both Tabinas and Guerrero were rushed to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center for immediate treatment.
