Two teenagers, including a minor who was found to have acted with discernment, have been charged for robbing an elderly retiree and his wife of goods and cash of nearly half a million pesos in November last year.
In its report to the Catanduanes provincial police office, the Viga police station told Col. Paul F. Abay that one of the suspects, Alton Vega Tuplano, was committed to the Virac district jail last Jan. 15, 2020.
The other suspect, a 16-year old girl considered a Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL), has been charged with the same offense before the Provincial Prosecution Office. She had been referred to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) for proper disposition shortly after their arrest.
The robbery at the house of retired public school teacher Nestor Cabrera Angeles, 72, and his wife Alice Tulod Angeles, 72, in barangay Oco reportedly transpired sometime between Nov. 15 and 24, 2019.
Unidentified suspects took dry goods such as T-shirts, slippers, flashlights, fishing lines and basketballs from inside the store and then also carted away an electric fan, P350,000 cash, 727 British pounds, and US$600 in different denominations.
Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Tuplano and his out-of-school youth companion in the same village.
Recovered from the girl’s possession were two newly bought cellphones and five bags containing P77,690, US$893, £380, and 20 pieces of different currencies.
Recovered from a barangay road near the Saint Joseph Parish Church were three more cellphones; 23 T-shirts, five short pants, a jacket, two long pants, four hats, six pairs of slippers, a pair of socks, 26 handkerchiefs, four perfume bottles, two sets of playing cards, three baby powder bottles, a deodorant stick, eight lighters, two bottles of cologne, a flashlight, a necklace, six earrings, a SIM card and 12 ballpens.
A clutch bag containing P143,147 was likewise recovered inside the abandoned comfort room that stood apart from the girl’s residence.
The items were inventoried in the presence of barangay chairman Alex Alcantara as well as the two minors with their guardians.
