25 VIRAC BARANGAYS, including Calatagan Proper (in photos), have conducted misting operations to combat rising cases of dengue in the capital town since June 2026. The barangay recorded five cases alone on July 19-25, with neighboring Cavinitan posting 15 cases during as seven-week stretch from June, according to the PHO-PESU. According to the latest data from PHO, dengue outbreaks have been declared in 25 barangays including the two Calatagan barangays, Hicming, Sto. Domingo, Bigaa, Pajo San Isidro, San Isidro Village, Palnab del Sur, Palnab del Norte, San Rpque, Sto. Nino, San Vicente, and Gogon Centro while clustering of cases was noted in Calatagan Proper, San Isidro Village, and Palnab del Norte. Majority of Virac’s 63 barangays are considered dengue hotspots.
