Patrolman dies in motorcycle crash

A police officer detailed to the Bato police station was killed early Friday morning when his motorcycle collided into two parked vehicles along the national road in Virac.

According to the official police report, Patrolman Jobert Barcelo Obedice, 31, married and a resident of Purok 4, Gubat Iraya, Bacacay, Albay, was driving a red Honda Click motorcycle registered in his wife’s name when the accident occurred at 2:50 AM of June 6, 2025.

Investigation disclosed that the officer, assigned to the 1st Police Mobile Force Company, had just come from the unit’s headquarters at Palta Salvacion and enroute to Bato when he accidentally collided with a black Rusi Macho 125 owned by Arnel Borja, 22, of Gogon Sirangan, and a Jonson e-bike owned by Jenny Linsangan Enriquez, 45, also of the same barangay.

Both vehicles, which were parked at the road shoulder, got dragged from their original positions as a result of the crash, the police said.

At 4:30 AM, or more than an hour after the accident, a concerned citizen called PCpl Domingo Sarmiento I, a traffic investigator of the Virac police assigned at the market site and informed him of the matter.

Together with Pat. Jomar Zafe, he immediately proceeded to Gogon where upon arrival, the victim was brought by an MDRRMO ambulance to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center where Pat. Obedice was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Peter Angelo Villamor.
