Local subscribers of PLDT WiFi are up in arms after losing patience with the local company over the slow pace of restoration of their connections.

Their anger and frustration are understandable, as it has been nearly a month now since the 140-kph winds of super typhoon “Pepito” brought down wires and posts of the telecommunications giant.

An official of PLDT’s local contractor told the Tribune that in addition to their teams, two more teams from Iriga and Naga Cities have been deployed to the island in an effort to speed up the restoration of internet service to affected areas.

He sought the understanding of the subscribers as heavy damage to main lines in some areas proved to be too much for the local team to handle by themselves.

The delay, however, proved too long for some customers, who decided to buy Starlink satellite internet devices as replacement for the PLDT. One of them even contacted PBM Fred Benedict Gianan, who was the first to recognize Starlink’s usefulness in the aftermath of disasters and brought a unit here in early 2023.

EYE PROBLEM. A guy goes to the eye doctor. He says, “I have trouble seeing things at a distance.”

The doc takes him over to the window, points up to the sky, and says, “What do you see up there?”

The guy says, “The sun.”

Doc says, “That’s right. So, exactly HOW far do you need to see, dude?”
