TGP, Cong. Teves 3rd-best Congress performer

Congratulations to the Talino at Galing ng Pinoy (TGP) Partylist and its representative, Cong. Jose “Bong” Teves Jr., for ranking 3rd among 63 partylist groups based on their job performance rating survey done on June 1-10, 2024 by the RP Mission and Development Foundation, Inc. (RPMD).

With a rating of 87.4 percent in a statistical tie with ACT-CIS of the Tulfo brothers and several others, TGP even bested the Bicol region’s top partylist group, Rep. Zaldy Co’s Ako Bicol (85.9%).

Teves’ excellent performance as TGP representative was apparently noticed by the voting populace as TGP’s ranking last June 2024 even surpassed its No. 6 finish in the job performance ratings survey done by the same group last January where TGP had 82.6% rating.

In contrast, the honorable representative of Catanduanes’ lone district, Rep. Eulogio Rodriguez, celebrated the rise in his RPMD job performance survey rankings from last place among the 16 district representatives of Bicol with a rating of 67.7% last year.

The latest survey shows him at 11th place with a job performance rating of 74.1%, besting last places Wilton Kho of Masbate and Rosemarie Panotes of Camarines Norte.

It may be recalled that in recent months, Cong. Rodriguez triggered a word war with TGP Rep. Teves by claiming that the island province has only one representative in Congress and that Teves has no standing politically here in Catanduanes as his group’s coverage is nationwide.

In the rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) being undertaken by a consortium led by San Miguel Corporation (SMC), one aspect that needs improvement is the way passengers disembark from the plane.

For Virac-Manila passengers, using the aerobridge provides ease and convenience aside from saving them from the elements especially during inclement weather. But this is a rare occurrence, as most of the time, the Cebu Pacific plane parks in the tarmac a considerable distance away from the arrival area, with the passengers made to board a bus.

Now, during sunny days, passengers don’t mind riding the yellow airconditioned buses but there is just one problem: there are not enough seats for People with Disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens as well as pregnant women and those with very young children.

In a recent flight out of the island, the four seats allocated for PWDs, seniors, the pregnant and those with children were simply not enough for about 10 or so people who should have access to safe seating.

Among the passengers denied such seats was the owner of Silangan Gas Station, Cardinal Shipping Lines and McDonald’s Virac, Carlito Tariman, who was bound for a checkup at Cardinal Santos Medical Center where he had been confined for some time recently due to a stroke.

The airline should endeavor to ensure disembarkation using the jetway or aerobridge, or failing that, use a bus with enough seats for PWDs, senior citizens, pregnant women or those with young children.

XI AND BIDEN’S BET. Xi wagers that in 100 years, China would be the dominant superpower, while Biden is confident that the USA will remain uncontested.

So after their terms ended and they reached the end of their mortal coil, they were cryogenically preserved in Switzerland and woken up in 100 years.

Strolling down the future streets of Geneva, they come across a news broadcast on a large billboard.

“Ha! I knew it! China is a soft power giant now!” says Xi, pointing at the newsreader announcing: “Communist Party USA wins historic US election.”

“Hmm, I wouldn’t be so sure about that…” says Biden, pointing at the bottom news crawl: “Tensions mount over border skirmishes between Taiwan and India.”
