29 Bagwis Catanduanes athletes competing at Palarong Pambansa

The 29 athletes representing Catanduanes are now set to bring their best in their respective sporting events in the Palarong Pambansa 2024 in Cebu City that opened yesterday, July 9.

After three days and two nights of sea and overland travel, the delegation, which is part of the 350-member Bicol Vulcans contingent, received a warm welcome in the morning of July 5 from teachers and students of Don Sergio Osmeña Memorial National High School where they are billeted.

The island’s delegates are composed of 12 Softball Elementary girls, four Basketball 3x boys, four Sepak Takraw Jr. boys, two Dancesports Elementary, one in Paragames, four in Athletics, and one in Gymnastics as follows:

Softball Elementary (Girls): Julia Araojo, Jhanelle Avila, Mary Rosa Benavidez, Cindy Clemente, Eden Joy de Villena, Jessica Novelo, Kathleen Mae Padua, Trician Mae Oraño, Janine Tabian, Vaughn Fryen Tomagan, Jeflyn Mae Valeza and Lenie Zuniega, all of Antipolo ES, with Jessie Sierra as coach, Gengie Salvidar as assistant coach and Jocelyn Nantes as chaperon.

Basketball 3×3 Boys: Daniel Joseph Tumazar, Ken Saurin Mabborang, Frans John Kirby Omanad, and Mark Edzil Morales, all of Viga RDHS, with Joel Francisco as coach.

Sepak Takraw Jr.: Raphael Ibatuan, Jhon Pail Salvador, Daniel Timbal and Jerco Zuniega, all of Yocti ES, with Ferdinand Tusi as coach.

Dance Sports (Elementary): Patrician Arlet Sy and Christopher Manlangit, both of Cavinitan ES, with Maricon Romero as coach.

V.I. Paragames: Lloyd Rodriguez of Cabugao IS, with Shiela Rojas as coach.

Athletics Elementary (Girls) – Jois Alexen Tud of Tambongon ES; Athletics Elementary (Boys) – Danwen Rafael of Magsaysay ES; Athletics Secondary (Boys) – Jejireh Alcantara of PSAT and John Gil of LIVSr. NHS; and Gymnastics MAG – Edwin Jimenez Jr. of Gigmoto CES.

The delegation is headed by Division Sports Officer Fidel Vegim, who expressed gratitude to the provincial government for the support given to the athletes.
