Six injured in two motorcycle mishaps in Bato, Caramoran

Six persons were hurt in separate accidents involving motorcycles in Bato and Caramoran towns last week, the Catanduanes Police Provincial Office reported.

In Bato town, construction worker Alfonso Tabinas Boral Jr., 36, a resident of Calatagan Tibang, Virac, was on board a Suzuki Smash 125 motorcycle owned by Rian Sumulat, with Genalyn Solsona Tarroquin, 40, also of the same barangay, traversing the national road at Marinawa when he figured in the accident at about 1:30 AM of June 1, 2024.

A Yamaha Mio 125, driven by Jhamel Samonte Vargas, 28, Provincial ENRO employee and resident of Sitio Balongbong, Sibacungan, Bato, coming from the opposite direction, encroached Boral’s lane and collided with the oncoming motorcycle.

Both drivers and the back rider sustained injuries and were taken to the Bato Maternity and Children’s Hospital for treatment. Their damaged motorcycles were placed in custody of the police station.

Four days earlier in Tubli, Caramoran, two housewives and a teacher were also hurt in a similar collision involving motorcycles.

Milaviga resident Eva Isorena Orreo, 38, was driving a Sym RV2 motorcycle with Susan Lucero Bona, 58, riding pillion at 8:30 AM of May 28 from Tubli towards Caramoran proper when their vehicle encroached the left lane at sitio Hinabuyan and sideswiped the Suzuki Raider 150 driven by public school teacher Allan Jovie Lou de Ocampo Pantino, 30, of Dariao.

They sustained minor injuries in the different parts of their bodies. The police said Orreo had no driver’s license while her motorcycle was unregistered. Both the driver and the passenger of the Sym RV2 was not wearing safety helmets at the time.

Meanwhile, a man listed among the region’s most wanted list was arrested last June 1, 2024 at 6:50 AM in Cabcab by elements of the San Andres police station, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Catanduanes field unit, Provincial Intelligence Unit and the Regional Intelligence Unit 6.

The apprehension was in connection with four counts of qualified statutory rape filed against him before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 43 Acting Presiding Judge Ritche Regala.
