A motorcyclist failed to make a safe, controlled turn on a sharp curve in the national road in Viga town last Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, and ran into an oncoming tanker truck in the opposite lane.
Rogelio Soliman Torcuator, 58, a native of Tinago, Viga, died instantly when he and his motorcycle went under the oil tanker and got dragged more or less three meters from the point of impact, the Viga police said.
Blood, torn-off motorcycle parts, bits of flesh and brain matter, as well as engine oil littered the scene when the responding law enforcers arrived sometime after 12:31 PM when a certain Jose Valenzuela informed the police about the accident at sitio Canlangka in barangay P. Vera.
Initial investigation conducted by the team led by PSSg Dennis Cabrera revealed that Torcuator was on board his Honda XRM 125 motorcycle and heading towards Viga when he miscalculated his approach at a sharp curve of the highway between KM 39 and 40.
The motorcycle’s speed and momentum carried it into the opposite lane where it crashed into a fuel tanker of Powerzone Petroleum Products traveling towards Virac.
Torcuator and his motorcycle went under the truck and was dragged for about three meters before truck driver John Caube Abarca, 34, a resident of Buyo, Virac, managed to stop his vehicle. At the time he was accompanied by helper Earl Gallo Tomagan, 39, of Palnab del Sur, Virac.
