Police find shabu in brgy. official’s house

A barangay treasurer considered a high value target in the anti-illegal drug campaign was arrested by the police last week after a search of her house yielded shabu.

Joint forces of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU), Catanduanes Provincial Intelligence Unit (CATPIU), Catanduanes Maritime Law Enforcement, and Coast Guard Intelligence Unit Catanduanes at Virac police station served on the suspect, identified only as “Lala,” the search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Genie G. Gapas-Agbada at 4 AM of May 20, 2023 at her house in barangay Concepcion, Virac.

During the search, the police found five transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu as well as other non-drug items inside a black coin purse.

The drug items were immediately sent for laboratory examination at the Regional Forensic Unit 5 at Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola in Legazpi City.

The Virac police chief, PMaj. Robert Kevin Caparroso, thanked the public for its continued support in the eradication of illegal drugs in Virac under the BIDA (Buhay Ingatan Droga’y Ayawan) program of the department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

A source familiar with the investigation informed the Tribune that the suspect is one Maria Carla T. Aguilar, who remains in custody of the Virac police pending the filing of a criminal charge for possession of dangerous drugs in violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

It is claimed that this is not the suspect’s first brush with the law as she was with one Alexander “Alek-Alek” Aguilar who was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Calatagan Proper, Virac in July 2012.

She was likewise among the three persons charged by police authorities following a raid on an alleged drug den in Divino Rostro, San Andres in August 2014.
