Two men were apprehended last week while trying to smuggle undocumented lumber on board a private van in the capital town of Virac.
Elements of the Virac police station flagged down the Honda Odyssey at barangay Palta Small at about 11:25 AM of April 12, 2023 and a subsequent inspection showed that it was loaded with 18 pieces of cut lumber valued at an estimated P15,000.00.
The two men on board the van were identified only by their nicknames “Jun” and “Mil”, both residents of San Andres town but a source claimed their real names are Amador Tan Jr. and Ramil Santelices.
The report did not identify the owner of the vehicle.
The suspects are now in the custody of the police pending the filing of a criminal case against them for violation of Presidential Decree 705 or the Forestry Code of the Philippines.
