PSA Catanduanes conducting commercial, municipal fisheries survey this April-June

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Catanduanes will conduct the 2nd Quarter Commercial and Municipal Fisheries Survey this April 1 to June 30, 2023.

A total of 12 traditional landing centers located in the municipalities of Bato, Baras, Gigmoto, Panganiban, San Andres, Virac, and Pandan will serve as the source of weekly data on fish unloading activities.

One Statistical Researcher per landing center will interview a maximum of eight (8) fishermen per unloading time for commercial fisheries survey, and ten (10) fishermen per unloading time for municipal fisheries survey.

The survey aims to gather information on the volume and value of fish species unloaded to fish landing centers.

This will serve as input in the compilation of national accounts, estimation of the value of production in agriculture and fisheries, policy making and program implementation, and research and studies.

Commercial fishing covers fishing operations in marine waters by fishing boats with more than three (3) gross tons, while Municipal Fishing uses boats with three (3) gross tons or less. Information on gear used, fishing effort, and fishing ground are also obtained through its conduct.

PSA Catanduanes assures its strict confidentiality regarding the data collected and its respondents under Section 26 of the Republic Act of 10625. The release of data gathered from surveys and censuses will only be in the form of summaries or statistical tables, in which no reference to an individual, corporation, association, partnership, institution, or business enterprise shall appear.
