CYBERTRIVIA:

Biblical misprints

An edition from 1562 has our Lord asserting, in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the place-makers.”

The Barker and Lucas Bible of 1631 – also known as the Wicked Bible – omits “not” from the 7th commandment in Exodus 20:14, rendering it “Thou shalt commit adultery.”

The ‘Unrighteous Bible’ (1653) makes exactly the same sin of omission, asserting in I Corinthians 6:9, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall inherit the kingdom of God?”

In 1716, the “Sin On” Bible implored its readers to “Go and sin on more” in John 8:11, rather than sinning no more.

The 1795 “Murderers’ Bible” reads, at Mark 7:27, “Let the children first be killed” (rather than “filled”).
