A construction worker in Virac was pronounced dead on arrival last Sunday evening (Aug. 28, 2022) after he was stabbed by his brother-in-law at 7:10 PM.
An initial report of the Virac police identified the victim as Arnold Pelera, a resident of barangay Pajo San Isidro and a brother-in-law of the suspect, Delfin Bartolome Arcilla Jr., 53, also a resident of the barangay.
The police received a phone call at 6:50 PM from the barangay chairman Jessie Talan regarding an alarm-and-scandal incident, after which another call was received regarding the stabbing.
Immediately, personnel of the station led by PSMS Henry Taule, along with duty investigator PSMS Ruel Adille, were sent to verity the report.
The police also asked for assistance from the Philippine Red Cross, which later brought the victim to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Monisita Lacorte at 7:25 PM.
According to reports, there had been bad blood between the suspect and the victim’s family and that night a drunk Arcilla challenged Pelera’s son Arnel to a fistfight.
Arnold went out to pacify the suspect but the latter suddenly stabbed Pelera near his left armpit, causing him to fall to the ground.
Accompanied by barangay kagawad Ariel Matienzo, Arcilla voluntarily surrendered to the police at the station.
He is now under custodial investigation and will wait the filing of a murder charge now being prepared by the Virac police.
