After nine months in hiding, Catanduanes’ 5th Most Wanted Person was finally arrested in Metro Manila by the police and brought to the island to face justice.
Combined operatives of the Baras police station, together with the Regional Intelligence Unit 5’s Provincial Intelligence Team 6, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 5, and the Pasong Putik Police Station 6 in Novaliches, Quezon City, carefully planned the apprehension of the suspect, who was finally collared last July 17, 2022.
The 30-year-old mechanic from Rawis, Virac, identified only as “Son,” is accused of raping his minor stepdaughter twice in 2021 in Baras town.
According to the victim, she was first sexually abused in March 2021, when she was just 14, inside their room while she was asleep. The violation was repeated in May of the same year, as she was unable to report the incidents to her mother because of fear.
It was only in October that the complaint was reported to the police with the help of the barangay, with the matter immediately acted upon by the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD).
The victim was taken from the accused’s home and is now staying with her real father.
Following the filing of the two cases of rape with the Regional Trial Court, a warrant for his arrest was issued last February 2022 by then RTC Branch 43 Presiding Judge Lelu P. Contreras, with no bail recommended for his temporary liberty.
Following the suspect’s arrest, Baras PNP officer-in-charge Lt. Brenda Hate called on the public to immediately report to the authorities any incident of abuse so that it could be appropriately acted upon by the concerned agencies of the government.
