CARMEL EUBRA CONTRACT KILLING UPDATE:

Two cellphones found at crime scene submitted for forensic investigation

Virac police authorities have requested the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a forensic investigation of the two cellular phones apparently found inside the car where Viga LGU department head Carmel Eubra was killed last May 24, 2022.

According to a member of the Eubra family, both the police probers and NBI investigators have secured the statements of the father and mother of the slain social worker who was shot to death by riding-in-tandem gunmen while on her way to Oceanview Subdivision in San Isidro Village.

It is claimed that Eubra’s parents were interviewed in connection with an incident that occurred a few months before her death in which a retired prosecutor visited the family and made “unacceptable” remarks regarding the alleged intimate relationship between her husband and Carmel.

It was during that encounter at the Eubra house that the Viga LGU official was reportedly told to resign from her post lest she face a case in court.

A family member reportedly wrote down what transpired during the meeting.

Another source also told the Tribune that the investigators took screenshots of an implied threat made online sometime before the killing by a woman linked to the controversy.

The police, which has yet to issue an update on the probe, is also looking into who circulated an alleged sex video recovered from the husband’s smartphone.

Meanwhile, the scheduled arraignment of the accused in the concubinage case involving Eubra at the Virac Municipal Trial Court (MTC) last June 2, 2022 was postponed again for his failure to present his counsel.

It may be recalled that on May 23, a day before the Viga MSWDO was killed, she appeared at the sala of Judge Myra Mangente together with her alleged paramour and the latter’s wife but the hearing was scrubbed when the complainant objected to the lawyer hired by the accused.

No untoward incident was observed during this hearing, with the three parties leaving the area in separate cars, including the Mitsubishi Expander that was tailed by the unidentified suspects prior to her killing.
