Four persons sustained injuries last week when a newly-repaired van went wild and struck another car, three tricycles and a motorcycle in a busy avenue in Virac Wednesday last week.
According to the police, one Rustom Gandia, 59, a native of Palanog, Camalig, Albay, was driving a Toyota Estima van (BDS 258) on the one-way Quezon Avenue in barangay Salvacion at about 2:30 PM of Mar. 23, 2022 when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle.
A witness claimed that the uncontrolled acceleration of the Estima began just after the White House intersection, with the vehicle nearly hitting a motorcycle and a tricycle before it struck a Toyota Wigo, three tricycles and a motorcycle.
It is claimed that the van, registered in the name of an employee of the JC Cua Group of Companies, was under repair at the Carangag motorpool in San Andres when Gandia took it out for a supposedly short test drive.
He now faces a criminal charge for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries and multiple damage to property.
On the other hand, the vehicle’s owner has promised to pay for the damage to the vehicles and properties and to provide medical assistance to those injured in the accident.
