The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Catanduanes will conduct the Farm Price Survey (FPS) this February 2022.
The FPS, which is conducted monthly by PSA, aims to generate estimates on farmgate prices of major agricultural commodities, develop sets of price indices and measure the purchasing power of growers of selected agricultural products, and serve as inputs in analyzing the seasonal trends and variations in agricultural prices.
Farm prices are vital information not only to farmers and traders but also to government agencies involved in planning agricultural programs.
The general purpose of the FPS is to gather reliable price information at the farm level. Specifically, the FPS aims to: a) generate estimates on farmgate prices of major agricultural commodities; b) develop sets of price indices and to measure the purchasing power of growers of selected agricultural products, and c) serve as input in analyzing the seasonal trends and variations in agricultural prices.
A two-stage sample selection is used for this survey, with the first stage focused on the selection of the top five producing municipalities based on the information on the volume of production of commodities provided by PAO and validated by the PSO/field staff through KIs.
Five sample farmers/producers per municipality who sold the commodity during the reference period are purposively selected during the second stage sample selection and for each sample municipality, at least five (5) sample farmers/producers who sold the commodity during the reference month will be purposively selected and be interviewed.
Whenever possible, the sample farmers/producers should come from different barangays including the top producing barangays of a particular commodity.
The data collection will be conducted by four (4) hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) through face-to-face paper and pencil interview (PAPI). The SRs are reminded to strictly observe proper health protocols in dealing with respondents.
The authority and mandate of the PSA to conduct the survey emanate from R.A. 10625. Like any other surveys undertaken by the PSA, the data to be gathered in the said survey are for statistical purposes only and will be published in summary forms. Information obtained from the respondents are held STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and are not used for investigation, taxation, and law enforcement purposes and are not be divulged to any person except authorized PSA personnel acting in the performance of their duties.
