A 41-year old resident of Viga is spending the first days of the New Year behind bars after he was arrested for hacking his own son during a violent disagreement on Dec. 31, 2020.
The Catanduanes police, which did not identify the suspect and the victim pursuant to an existing policy, said that prior to the incident, a quarrel erupted between the two family members when the man refused to lend his motorcycle to his 21-year old son.
While the son was resting on a hammock beside his cousin, the father suddenly swung a bolo twice at his own son, hitting him on the head and left arm.
The cousin sought assistance from barangay officials, who brought the victim to the Viga district hospital for treatment.
The suspect surrendered to the chief of the barangay tanod and is now in custody of the local police pending the filing of a criminal charge for frustrated parricide against him.
A source of the Catanduanes Island Media Club (CIMC) identified the suspect as Jose “Ote” Pasuengos and the victim as Jonathan “Kalbo” Pasuengos.
Meanwhile, the Number 4 Municipal Most Wanted Person in Bato town, 41-year old Rodel Tarnate Tarniela, was arrested in Caloocan City last Jan. 2, 2021, a CIMC source disclosed.
A separate report from the Catanduanes Police Provincial Office said that elements of the Bato municipal police station and the Quezon City Police Department ISO Tracker Team of the District Mobile Force Battalion made the apprehension on the basis of a warrant issued by the Virac Regional Trial Court, Branch 43, Presiding Judge Lelu P. Contreras.
They tracked their quarry, identified only as “Del” and a laborer from barangay Sipi, to Bagong Silang in Caloocan City and collared him at 3:30 P.M. of said date, the report said.
Prior to his arrest, the fugitive has been on the run since the filing of a homicide case against him under Criminal Case No. 5563, with bail set at P40,000.00.
