6 arrested in police raids on ‘tong-its,” “ente-cuatro”

Six people were arrested over the past week in twin anti-illegal gambling raids by the Catanduanes police in Pandan and Baras towns.

Tipped off by concerned citizens, personnel of the Pandan police station swooped down on an illegal gambling operation in sitio Carbao in barangay Oga last week, arresting two persons.

Sharon Buizon Isorena, 37, single and resident of sitio Cagnipa, Balangonan, and Sonny Sabeniano Ibatuan, 47, married and of Oga, were collared by the police at 5:45 P.M. of May 28, 2020 sometime after being informed of the illegal card game.

The team seized a set of playing cards and a total of P700.00 in bets.

A day later, the Baras police launched a similar operation at 3 P.M. in barangay Caragumihan and apprehended four suspects, including two women.

Gabriel Tapia Dasigan, 57, Shirley Tenerife Sumulat, 28, Anabelle Rempis Oliman, 36, all of the barangay, and Dioscoro Alapide Teves, 58, of Paniquihan, were caught in the act of playing “ente-cuatro” at a nipa hut.

The police confiscated as evidence a set of playing cards and bet money amounting to P158.

The six suspects will face a criminal charge for violation of Presidential Decree 1602.
