PSA Preliminary Marriage Statistics:

May is the “marry-est” month of 2025 for Catandunganons

Majority of the marriages recorded in 2025 occurred in the month of May, not June, according to the Preliminary Marriage Statistics for Catanduanes released by the Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) last week.

The fifth month of the year accounted for 143 weddings, or 18.8 percent of the 761 marriages reported to the agency last year.

April ranked second with 126 total marriages or 16.6 percent, followed by March and June with 67 weddings or 8.8 percent each.

The month of November had the least number of marriages with just 13 or 1.7 percent, the same report stated.

Here’s the totals for the other months: February, 66; July, 59; August, 58; December, 47; January, 40, October, 39; and September, 36.

Majority of marriages solemnized in Roman Catholic rite

Most of the marriages were solemnized in Roman Catholic ceremony with 469 pr 61.6 percent while 271 or 35.6 percent were via civil rite, with the remaining 21 done through other religious rites.

In 63.6% of marriages, the husband is older than the wife

In majority of the marriages in 2025, the husband was older than the wife, accounting for 63.6 percent.

Among these, the largest share is observed among couples where the husband is older by 1-2 years (23.5%) and 3-5 years (21.9%), respectively.

Marriages involving husbands younger than their wives (162) comprise 21.3 percent while couples of the same age (115) account for 15.1 percent.

Those with wider age gaps are less common, with 91 (12%) involving a husband older by 6-10 years and 39 (5.1%) with the husband older by 11-20 years.

Only eight (8) weddings or 1.1 percent were recorded where the husband was older by more than 20 years.

Panganiban has highest crude marriage rate at 5.07

The preliminary statistics indicate a crude marriage rate of 2.60 or two marriages per thousand population for Catanduanes.

The municipality of Panganiban had the highest crude marriage rate with 5.07 or 5 marriages per thousand population while Caramoran had the lowest with 1.52 or one marriage per thousand population.

Virac had the highest number of marriages with 273 (35.9%) followed by San Andres with 94 (12.4%); Bato, 63; Baras, 55; Caramoran, 52; San Miguel, 50; Panganiban, 40; Viga, 37; and Gigmoto, 30.

On the other hand, Bagamanoc had the fewest weddings with 24 or 3.2 percent.

Majority of the males and females married between the ages of 26-30 years old

Males in the same age group were in 245 marriages (32.2%) while female of the same age group were in 304 marriages (39.9%).

For those aged between 31-35, males accounted for 30.9 percent (235) and females 24.6 percent (187).

The PSA noted that more females married at ages of 18-35 years old than males in the same age group.

Six grooms were in the 18-20 age group along with 16 females while only eight individuals aged 60 and above, none of them female, got married in 2025.

On the other hand, there were 11 grooms and 7 brides in the 51-59 age group.

The preliminary report on marriage statistics was released last week by the PSA Catanduanes Provincial Statistical Office.
