TGP Rep. Bong Teves designated as member of CatSU Board of Regents

Rep. Jose J. Teves Jr.

Talino at Galing ng Pinoy (TGP) Partylist Congressman Jose “Bong” Joson Teves Jr. will now sit as a member of the Board of Regents (BOR) of the Catanduanes State University.

Teves’ designation as the permanent representative of House Committee on Higher and Technical Education (CHTE) was made by the Committee Chairperson Rep. Jude A. Acidre of Tingog Partylist recently.

Under Section 3 of Republic Act 8292, otherwise known as the Higher Education Modernization Act of 1997, the committee chair is the ex-officio member of the Governing Boards of all State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).

The TGP representative’s stint in the BOR became effective last Sept. 8, 2025 and will last until June 30, 2028.

As Rep. Acidre’s representative, Teves will perform all the powers, prerogatives and duties of a BOR member, excluding the authority to vote for the SUC presidency which shall be covered by another authorization in the event that the CHTE chair will not be able to cast the vote during the election date.

The designated BOR member shall serve without compensation except for reimbursement of necessary expenses incurred in attending the board meetings.

In the previous 19th Congress, the CHTE chairperson’s representative in the CatSU Board of Regents was Cong. Eulogio R. Rodriguez, who was recently embroiled in a row with Cong. Teves over the latter’s request for investigation of the allegedly anomalous P55 million Minaabat road project in Gigmoto.
