Over 1,500 screened for TB in Simultaneous Active Case Finding Activity in Bicol

A total of 1,554 individuals were screened for tuberculosis (TB) during the Regionwide Active Case Finding Activity of the Department of Health Bicol Center for Health Development (DOH Bicol CHD) on August 29, 2025.

This year, the National Tuberculosis Control Program prioritized its beneficiaries from the national housing project sites in the Region.

It is part of the Nationwide Simultaneous Activity and in celebration of National Lung Month 2025 with the theme, “For a #TBFreeNation, YOUth can #EndTB,” wherein it highlights the vital role of the youth and the power of united action in eliminating tuberculosis.

The activity is in partnership with the Provincial Health Offices, Local Government Units, and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), and the National Housing Authority.

Beneficiaries availed of free X-ray, Genexpert, Random Blood Sugar Testing (RBS), blood typing and Provider-Initiated Counseling and Testing (PICT).

The screened population are from the Tabaco Housing Project Phase 1 and 2 – 238, Tiwi, Albay – 218, Camalig, Albay – 159, Manito, Albay – 192, Anislag Relocation Site – 148, DepEd Schools Division Office – 116, Cabid-an Resettlement Project Phase 1 – 101, Masbate City – 50, Ticao, Masbate – 41, Iriga, Camarines Sur – 170, Mercedes, Camarines Norte – 108, Valencia, Catanduanes – 13.

Results identified as positive for TB will be forwarded to a health facility and will be subjected to a GeneXpert test for confirmation prior to further management and treatment.

The DOH Bicol CHD encourages the public, especially the youth, to visit the health center and avail of the free screening services for the early detection of TB.
