The Virac Sports Club celebrated its 32nd founding anniversary recently, welcoming 16 new members to its fold.
In the event that was held at the Calatagan Proper barangay plaza last July 7, 2024, Mayor Samuel Laynes administered the oath of membership to the new members, which included Virac police chief Maj. Emsol Icawat, FICELCO engineer Calvin Pio Gianan, several police officers and sports-minded individuals from various sectors of society.
Headed by Tribune publisher Fernan Gianan, the VSC rose out of the physical fitness program of the defunct Kiwanis Club of Isla Catanduanes in 1991 and was formally organized the next year at the old Rawis plaza.
Its members, ranging in age from 15 to 70, play basketball at the Virac Sports Center every weekend and holiday mornings starting at 4 AM and will resume its midweek night games at Calatagan plaza soon.
