One dead, 15 hurt in separate accidents in Virac, San Miguel

A game fowl handler was killed when his motorcycle went off the road and hit an concrete post last week in Virac, just days after a tricycle fell off a cliff in San Miguel, injuring its driver and 14 passengers, including nine children.

In the capital town last June 26, 2024 at 6:10 AM, Esperidion Molina Jr. was driving his tricycle along the road in Purok 5, Pajo Baguio when he saw a motorcycle lying on the side of the road.

Curious, he approached and found a man lying unconscious beside the motorcycle, prompting him to immediately seek help from Barangay Kagawad Fernando Lopez.

Investigation disclosed that based on the skid marks on the road, the victim, Michael Lucero Lopez, 43, also known as “Tagas” and a resident of Concepcion, probably lost control while traversing the blind curve and accidentally bumped the concrete post, causing him to sustain severe head injury that led to his death.  Relatives told police that the victim was under the influence of liquor as he already consumed one bottle of “Alfonso Light” before leaving their residence to spend the night at the Stavri Farm in Hawan Ilaya.

In Progreso, San Miguel, an overloaded tricycle driven by Vincent Balisacan Morales, 33, of Mabato, was descending on a curved portion of the national highway at around 7:30 PM of June 23, 2024 when he lost control and the vehicle fell at least eight meters down the embankment.

Morales was injured along with his 14 passengers, which included nine children ranging in age from three to 14 years old, as well as a 68-year-old woman.

The victims were brought to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center in Virac by responding personnel of the San Miguel MDRRMO.
