2 men hacked, stabbed in Caramoran, Gigmoto

Two men were injured in separate violent incidents in Caramoran and Gigmoto towns last Saturday evening, the Catanduanes Police Provincial Office said.

In the first incident that occurred at 7:50 PM of April 6, 2024 in barangay District II, Gigmoto, Jorge Borbe San Joaquin, 67, a fisherman, was engaged in a drinking spree with his friends at his residence when the suspect, Roning Borbe Bernacer, 52, a fisherman who is San Joaquin’s half-brother, suddenly entered and stabbed Jorge once in the stomach.

Neighbors immediately brought the victim to the Gigmoto District Hospital but he was later transferred to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center for specialized treatment.

Gigmoto LGU job order personnel Jose Tagoo later sought the assistance of the police, with PMSg Niño Pongan and other personnel able to recover the bolo used by the suspect in the crime as well as bloodstained pieces of the shorts of the two men for forensic examination.

Less than an hour later in Maysuram, Caramoran, farmer Rene Iducan Fernandez, 36, of sitio Lusong, was in a drinking session with abaca stripper Alfred Montero Fernandez, 32, and their friends when the two men had a heated altercation.

Alfred then used a bolo to hack Rene at the back of his neck, with the victim brought by his immediate family to the Pandan District Hospital for treatment.

Barangay chairman Judith Abainza turned over the suspect to responding personnel of the Caramoran police and is now under custody for proper disposition.
