Campus journalists from Catanduanes are bound for the 2023 National Schools Press Conference after tallying wins in 14 individual and group contests in the elementary and secondary levels at last week’s regional presscon in Legazpi City.
School papers from the island division also dominated the output of campus journalists from the other five provinces, as the entries from the secondary level were declared overall champion while the papers from the elementary level took first runner-up honors.
Homer Angelo P. Chavez of Catanduanes National High School, coached by Jefferson S. Arcilla, won 2nd place in Sports Writing (English) while two students from Bagamanoc Rural Development High School, coached by Lorainne Ann Santos took 3rd place in separate events: Zen Josh M. Alberto in Column Writing (English) and Cassey P. Evangelista in Editorial Writing (English).
Caramoran RDHS also has one of its students, Allysa Y. Trollano (coach: Ailene D. Sambrano) going to the national contest with a 3rd place finish in Editorial Writing (Filipino).
The Collaborative Desktop Publishing (English) team from the Catanduanes NHS, coached by Giselle P. Trapago, was 3rd place while its Filipino counterpart (coach: Jessa Matienzo) scored a 2nd place finish.
In the elementary level individual contests, the Catanduanes delegation tallied two first-place winners: Sophia Athena Teleg of Bato Central ES (coach: Cynthia Rojas) in Newswriting (English) and Sofia V. Urbano of Juan M. Alberto Memorial ES (coach: Mary Joy Tabuzo) in Copyreading & Headline Writing (Filipino).
Three more garnered 2nd place in their events: Kate Joenz Ferrer of Virac Pilot ES (coach: Janice L. Icawat) in Editorial Writing (Filipino); Marc Denver Alcantara of VPES (coach: Jayson Vargas) in Sports writing (Filipino); and, Chrissy Lyne Pante of VPES (coach Thielen Go) in Copyreading & Headline Writing (English).
Rounding out the level winners are Chris Erron Zafe of VPES (coach: Paul John Padilla), 3rd place in Column Writing (English); Samara Emmanuelle Divina of Bato Central ES (coach: Daisy Talion), 4th place in Copyreading & Headline Writing (Filipino); and, Rizzy Lawrence Trilles of VPES (coach: Janice Icawat), 4th place in Newswriting (Filipino).
