The owner-type jeep of the First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FICELCO) that figured in a fatal accident last week was avoiding a motorcycle in its path when the mishap occurred.
According to the report of the San Andres police, the olive-green jeep (RMT487) being driven by FICELCO area foreman Jose Ignacio Jr., 55, a resident of Danao, Baras, with three workers as passengers, was negotiating the road along barangay Tibang at 6 AM of July 11, 2022 when it tried to avoid the motorcycle in front and swerved to the right.
With the driver losing control, the jeep left its lane and ran down Corazon Borre, 85, a widow who was then sweeping the sidewalk in front of her house.
Responding personnel of the San Andres Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office managed to bring the badly injured woman to the Juan M. Alberto Memorial District Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The jeep and its driver were brought to the police station in preparation for the filing of a criminal charge for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
The management has already settled the incident with the family and shouldered the funeral expenses along with P150,000 in cash assistance.
