The parents of Viga MSWDO Carmel Eubra, who was shot dead by riding-in-tandem killers in Virac, have filed twin complaints of qualified trespass to dwelling against a retire prosecutor and her daughter.
Informed sources said that the complaints were filed by Romulo and Milagros Eubra the other Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Virac.
The couple alleged that on two occasions last February and March this year, Atty. Rizalina Velasco-Tañon, who is the current legal counsel of the provincial government, forcible opened the screen door of their residence in barangay Pandan del Sur without their consent and angrily uttered intimidating words against the Eubra family.
On the second incident, the complaint reportedly said, the former prosecutor was accompanied by his daughter, Ma. Elena Tañon-Tapel, as well as police officers on board a patrol car of the Pandan municipal police station.
In the first complaint, the Eubras alleged that on Feb. 17, 2022, they were resting in their sala at about noon when Atty. Tañon suddenly entered their house without permission and told them she would no longer stand as a sponsor in their golden wedding anniversary.
The lawyer then left immediately, with Romulo claiming that he saw that she was accompanied by another woman and police officers who went to the barangay on a patrol car.
The incident was repeated on March 19, also at noon, when the lawyer angrily entered the Eubra house without permission and shouted at the Eubra couple that their daughter, Carmel Eubra had been in a relationship with her husband for five years and that the money that Carmel used to buy her car came from Nepthaly Tañon.
Romulo Eubra, who reportedly took notes of the incident, said that the lawyer claimed that his daughter got at least P600,000 from Tañon’s husband and that their house in Virac was being used as a hotel by Carmel and Nepthaly.
Romulo also alleged that the lawyer showed to them pictures of his daughter and Nepthaly in compromising positions, placed the pictures in an envelope and gave them to his wife.
He said that Tañon demanded that they tell their daughter to resign from her job or else she would be charged in court and could no longer find work in the government.
After several exchange of words, Romulo reportedly asked Tañon to leave the house as his wife was already having difficulty breathing and apparently suffering from hypertension.
The visitors then left, he said, but one of the policemen came back to get the envelope containing the incriminating pictures from his wife.
Two months after the last incident, on May 24, 2022, Carmel Eubra was killed by riding-in-tandem gunmen who apparently trailed her on the way to a house at Oceanview Subdivision where she stayed while in Virac.
The killing occurred a day after she went to the Virac Municipal Trial Court for the arraignment in connection with a concubinage case filed against her and Nepthaly Tañon by the retired prosecutor.
The relationship between Eubra and the lawyer’s husband is one of the angles being considered by investigators of the murder.
Some law enforcement sources claim that the killing may have been a case of mistaken identity as the slain woman’s Mitsubishi Expander was similar to a car being used by Pandan mayor-elect Raul Tabirara who has a house in the same village.
It is alleged that a security officer of Tabirara received a threat that the mayor-elect would not be allowed to take office this June 30 after defeating Mayor Honesto Tabligan II in the May 9, 2022 elections.
However, a member of the Tabirara family told the Tribune that they are not aware of such a threat and that the vehicle the mayor-elect is using is an Isuzu Mu-X bought secondhand from a former provincial board member.
There are also allegations that the murder may have been related to her work as Viga MSWDO, as she reportedly had a hand in the delisting from the 4Ps program of several families connected to the New People’s Army.
