The local government unit of Virac, through the Virac tourism office, marked the celebration of National Arts Month by holding Sining Pandemya from February 14 to 19, 2022 at the 2nd floor of Virac Center Mall.
The event was conducted in support of the Arts Month, which aims to conserve, promote and popularize Filipino artistic creations.
Mariel Tabuzo-Torzar, Municipal Tourism Officer-Designate, spearheaded Sining Pandemya in collaboration with Virac Center Mall and Renzo Art Gallery and Frames.
Featured were different local artists from various fields including visual arts, performance arts, literature, music, and handicrafts and helped put in the spotlight their works, talents and achievements, as well as highlight their unique crafts.
Forty artists participated in the event, including internationally-acclaimed painter Maruja Panti, magician and ventriloquist John Kim “Kuya Kim” A. Belangel, Philippine Free Press Literary Award winner Allan Popa, Islander in the City columnist Pablo Tariman, and Burabod writer Efren “ETASOR” Sorra.
Visitors to the event were treated to an exceptional showcase of creativity: a puppet and magic show, poetry reading by the island’s poets, acoustic show serenading the crowds, an on-the-spot painting session, and a painting exhibit showcasing the artists’ masterpieces.
Sining Pandemya drew to a close successfully on February 19 with more than 10 pieces of paintings sold, around 10 reserved, and with many requested commissions. The Local Government Unit of Virac, as well as other related agencies, expressed their open-mindedness and support of local culture and the arts.
