Catanduanes topped the other five provinces in the Bicol region during the second round of the National Vaccination Days, inoculating over 255% of its target for Dec. 20-22, 2021.
According to data from the Department of Health Bicol Center for Health Development (DOH Bicol CHD), vaccination teams in Catanduanes managed to administer 37,080 jabs during the three-day NVD, more than twice its target of 14,499.
The other five provinces’ accomplishments are as follows: Albay with 103.29% of their target vaccinated, Camarines Sur with 89.96%, Sorsogon with 61.91%, Masbate with 60.50%, and Camarines Norte with 57.99%.
Overall, as of Dec. 24, 2021, the second round of the National Vaccination Days (NVD) in the region vaccinated about 561,077 individuals, or 81.85% of its target number of individuals. Out of the vaccinated individuals, 28.29% received their first dose, 69.45% received their second dose, and 2.26% received their booster doses. The activity held on December 20 to 22, 2021 was conducted as a continuation of the first round of the NVD conducted on November 29 to December 1, 2021.
The latest report of the Provincial Health Office as of Dec. 23, 2021 showed that 56% of the current target population of 228,180 is now fully vaccinated, including children 12 to 18 years old.
This is equivalent to 47% of the island’s population of 275,043.
Another 4,435 fully vaccinated residents have been given their booster doses.
The percentages of fully vaccinated people based on target population by municipality are as follows: Bagamanoc, 58%; Baras, 65%; Bato, 70%; Caramoran, 34%; Gigmoto, 53%; Pandan, 47%; Panganiban, 67%; San Andres, 47%; San Miguel, 54%; Viga, 58%; and, Virac, 66%.
On the other hand, separate data from DOH-CHD Bicol indicates that for Catanduanes to achieve full vaccination of 192,531 people or 70 percent of its population, it would need to inoculate the remaining 27,856 still unvaccinated as of Dec. 23, 2021.
The number of unvaccinated people by town is as follows: Bagamanoc, 896; Baras, 522; Bato, 1,681; Caramoran, 6,254; Gigmoto, 453; Pandan, 2,186; San Andres, 4,656; San Miguel, 1,481; Viga, 2,075; and, Virac, 7,983.
More than 70% of the target population in Panganiban town has been fully inoculated against the coronavirus.
The town, however, had one of the only two new COVID-19 cases last week, a 71-year old asymptomatic woman who was a close contact of a confirmed case.
The other was a 30-year old asymptomatic woman from Caramoran who has no history of travel and with exposure yet to be determined.
Last week also saw the number of active cases in the province fall to its lowest of 13 in recent months, with the two new cases bringing it back up to 15 by Dec. 23.
