DICT to activate 18 more free Wi-Fi sites in Cat’nes next year

Eighteen more Free Wi-Fi for All hotspots in Catanduanes will be activated next year by the Department
of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to provide Internet connectivity to more people.
This was disclosed last week by the DICT Catanduanes provincial office, which provided the Tribune a list
of the activated free Wi-Fi sites in the island.
The 18 sites for activation in 2022 are intended for the municipal plazas of Bagamanoc, Baras, Bato,
Caramoran, Gigmoto, Pandan, Panganiban, San Miguel, and Viga, at two (2) sites each.
In a recent press release, the DICT Luzon Cluster 3 and the Free Wi-Fi for All Program announced that
access to free Internet connection has been finally provided to the entire island province of Catanduanes
and Sorsogon.
It said that, with all their municipalities connected to the program, even the residents of the province’s
most remote, vulnerable, and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) are now able to
access opportunities, data and information through the use of Free Wi-Fi hotspots.
The Free Wi-Fi for All Program is one of the DICT’s flagship programs that aims to provide free internet
access in public places nationwide, pursuant to Republic Act 10929 also known as the Free Internet
Access in Public Places Act.
As of October 26, 2021, the Free Wi-Fi for All program had established a total of 11,400 sites nationwide.
There are currently 146 Free Wi-Fi for All hotspots in 69 locations activated in Catanduanes, with 26 in
schools and libraries, 70 in National Government Agencies (NGAs), 27 in public hospitals and health care
units, and 23 in public plazas and open areas, the agency stated.

municipal hall, and Benticayan barangay hall (3);
BATO – Bato Central ES, Baras RDHS, Bato RHU, Sipi barangay hall, Sipi ES, Bato municipal hall,
Buenavista barangay hall (3), Cagraray barangay hall (3), and Bato municipal plaza (3);
CARAMORAN – Caramoran RHU, Caramoran RDHS, Caramoran Central ES, Caramoran town plaza,
Dariao barangay hall, Dariao ES, Dariao NHS, Tubli barangay hall (3), and, Tucao barangay hall (3);
GIGMOTO – District III barangay hall (2), Dororian barangay hall (3), Gigmoto District Hospital (4), and,
