Returning to his roots in Panganiban town on his 54th birthday, Provincial Board Member Robert A. Fernandez hosted a feeding program in selected elementary schools last week in partnership with Congressman Jose “Bong” Joson Teves Jr, of TGP Partylist.
School children, teachers, administrators and parents enjoyed a nutritious lunch in four elementary schools – Burabod Community School, Cabuyoan Elementary School, Mabini Community School and San Miguel Elementary School – with a total of 506 pupils and 40 teaching staff benefited by the program. The feeding program was not only dedicated to celebrating the gift of life of the PBM but also with the purpose of alleviating the health and the holistic development of children.
The former three-term mayor of Panganiban, who now serves as Sangguniang Panlalawigan member with committee chairmanships on Education, Research and Development, and Public Safety and Peace and Order, stressed during his message the importance of education and how pupils’ performance at school can determine the welfare of their future.
He called on the pupils to aim for excellence in their studies so that they will be able to achieve their dreams and aspirations in time.
After the feeding program in the said schools, a simple birthday party was held at the Fernandez residence, with his family hosting friends not only from Panganiban but from the different municipalities in the province of Catanduanes.
Among them were all barangay captains in Panganiban and some from Viga and Bagamanoc, some heads of provincial offices, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Secretary Atty. Gilbert T. Suarez with his staff, and DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Danilo E. Despi and some division office personnel.
In his message during the party, PBM Obet stated that he is very grateful that he was given a chance to serve the people of Panganiban for 12 years, three years as a Vice Mayor and nine years as a Mayor.
“My solid foundation as a politician and zeal for good public service was cultivated during this 12 years in local government,” he emphasized.
