
With its 101-gold medal haul nearly twice that of its closest pursuer, the municipality of Virac clinched the overall championship in the 2026 Provincial Selection Meet that ended last weekend.
Aside from the record number of golds, the capital town’s athletic delegation also won 50 silvers and 53 bronzes as it ruled regular sports events in both the secondary and elementary divisions.
Caramoran finished second with 55 golds, 55 silvers and 32 bronzes while Viga took third place with 51 golds, 38 silvers and 43 bronzes.
Here are the ranks and medal counts for the rest of the 11-delegation competition: 4th – Pandan (34-41-51); 5th – San Andres (30-35-35); 6th – Bagamanoc (30-24-42); 7th – Bato (28-41-32); 8th – San Miguel (21-26-39); 9th – Baras (13-7-12); 10th – Panganiban (8-12-15); and 11th – Gigmoto (8-8-6).
Standings in the secondary level: 1st – Virac (59-31-41); 2nd – Viga (38-23-21); 3rd – Bagamanoc (27-18-25); 4th – San Andres (23-20-22); 5th – Pandan (21-30-30); 6th – Bato (16-26-21); 7th – Caramoran (14-23-25); 8th – Baras (13-6-7); 9th – San Miguel (11-17-25); 10th – Gigmoto (7-7-5); and 11th – Panganiban (3-5-9).
