ONLY TRACES OF A HOUSE’S FOUNDATION can be seen in the aftermath of the powerful storm surge unleased by super typhoon Uwan in a coastal village of Pandan. Similarly situated barangays bore the brunt of the sea’s fury last Sunday morning, with waves as high as five meters pounding seawalls and rushing through unprotected shores, carrying the remains of houses and other debris inland. AFFECTED POPULATION: 184,516 (18,304 inside evacuation centers)

CASUALTIES: 2 dead (one each in Viga and Caramoran), 7 injured, none missing

STATUS OF LIFELINES AND CRITICAL FACILITIES:

Roads and Bridges: Some areas are currently impassable due to landslide, flooding and fallen trees

Electricity: Non-Operational but restoration has begun in Virac

Communication: Non-operational in several municipalities

Water Supply System: Gigmoto, Virac and Pandan WDs non-operational

DAMAGE TO RESIDENTIAL HOUSES: Totally Damaged – 3,712; Partially Damaged – 4,027

AFFECTED POPULATION: 186,065 individuals in 302 barangays

Bagamanoc – 7,192 in 19 barangays; Baras – 14,442 in 29 barangays; Bato – 15,137 in 30 barangays; Caramoran – 36,491 in 28 barangays; Gigmoto – 11,899 in 9 barangays; Pandan – 13,308 in 25 barangays; Panganiban – 3,554 in 21 barangays; San Andres – 17,929 in 34 barangays; San Miguel – 4,664 in 13 barangays; Viga – 25,509 in 32 barangays; and, Virac – 35,940 in 62 barangays

GOVERNOR PATRICK ALAIN AZANZA discuss the province’s disaster response and relief efforts in Tuesday morning’s meeting with DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and regional director Norman Laurio as well as TGP Rep. Jose “Bong” Teves Jr. and other national and local officials. Also present were the mayors of the 11 towns, except for the chief executives of Viga, Gigmoto and Bagamanoc.

FLOODING INCIDENTS: Virac – 33 barangays: Baras – 7 barangays; Viga – 5 barangays; Bagamanoc – 2 barangays; Panganiban – 2 barangays; and San Miguel – 1 barangay

DAMAGE TO INFRASTRUCTURE: Gigmoto – seawall, P60 million; police station, P150,000; district hospital, P50,000; and solar street lights, P4.2 million.

DAMAGED HOUSES: Baras – 34 totally and 162 partially damaged; Gigmoto – 254 totally and 790 partially damaged; Pandan – 179 totally and 644 partially damaged; and, Panganiban – 21 totally damaged and 136 partially damaged

COST OF ASSISTANCE (Family Food Packs): Baras – 1,000 boxes (P728,330.00); Bato – 1,065 boxes (P572,607.90); San Miguel – 2,000 (P1,492,050.00); Viga – 271 (P140,404.00); and Virac – 2,000 (P1,026,000.00)
