Inside Page | Fernan A. Gianan:

Pablo Tariman needs our help

Last Friday (Sept. 12) during the SP Family Day and Blessing of the Multi-Purpose Hall, Vice Governor Obet Fernandez expressed concern about the recent memorandum of Governor Patrick Alain Azanza prohibiting department heads and key officials from appearing before the provincial board without his written permission.

He pointed out that in case of urgent requests for action from the executive regarding vital issues, this would not be possible if the resource persons needed by the SP itself or its committees would need to secure a go-signal from governor, citing the latter’s frequent travels outside Catanduanes.

“If we follow the governor, the work of the SP will slow down considerably,” VG Fernandez stressed, noting that the SP conducts its sessions only on Monday and its committee meetings every Thursday.

Underscoring that the board wants to protect the executive branch, he stated that if the latter moves without consulting the SP, then the board cannot be blamed,

He also asked the legislative employees not to pick on the job order workers and warned that he would remove the JOs assigned to the permanent employee if the latter shows disrespect to the JO worker.

“Mahigpit lang ako sa mali,” Fernandez said in asking the SP family to be united in doing what is right and in showing to the people that they are ready to help in transforming the province.

Also present during the event were PBMs Edwin Tanael, Josevan Balidoy, Xyrell Albaniel, Lorenzo Templonuevo Jr., Giovanni Balmadrid, Arnel Turado, Rafael Zuniega and Alvin Rodriguez. PBM Fred Benedict Gianan was on official travel while PBM Dean Roberto Vergara is reported visiting his family in America.

The last time culture and arts writer Pablo Tariman sent his weekly column was on Aug. 22 for the Aug. 27 issue of the Tribune.

The following week, he begged off and expressed regret that his computer was not booting up.

“Pati computer ko ga helang na,” he remarked, hinting of his lingering illness.

For several years now, as he told me when he met during one of rare visits to the island, he had not been taking his maintenance medicine against the advice of his doctor.

On Sept. 3, he replied to my usual weekly query: “Pass na muna. Very sick.“

He said he was preparing to be confined and set for a check up at the Medical City the next day.

A message I sent three days later asking on his situation went unanswered.

Last Saturday, his family tried to have him admitted to a public hospital in Metro Manila but could not get a vacant room

They were forced to confine Aboy in a private hospital where he is now battling complications from tuberculosis, severe malnutrition, hypertension, diabetes and liver disease.

Readers and fans who wish to send any assistance to help defray his mounting hospital expenses may do so through the following bank accounts: BPI Savings Account No. 2449 0956 88 and BDO Savings Account No. 000 1806 499 14, with account name Pablo A. Tariman. Prayers for his recovery would be welcome.

COST-SAVING PLAN. A factory owner is trying to come up with innovative ideas to save money and therefor save his business from going under.

The owner calls a meeting with all of his 200 employees out on the plant floor.

“OK, everyone, we are in deep trouble. I will give $2,000 dollars to the first person that comes to me with a cost saving idea.”

Immediately a guy in the front row shoots up his hand.

Owner says “Yes, Barry. That was fast, what’s your cost saving plan?”

Barry says. “Make it $1,000”.
