Powerzone fuel a lot cheaper due to discount

The Catanduanes police continues to make headway in the campaign against illegal drugs.

Last Saturday evening in Cabugao, Bato, elements of the town’s police station led by Maj. Lester Quililian, together with personnel of the Catanduanes Police Intelligence Unit, arrested John Mark Sarmiento de Mesa, a resident of the barangay, in a buy-bust operation conducted in the presence of mandatory witnesses as well as Punong Barangay Nenita Taraya.

The suspect yielded a plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu as well as a genuine P500 bill and a counterfeit P500.

He will face a criminal charge for selling dangerous drugs in violation of Sec. 5 of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Powerzone’s 16-percent fuel price reduction is a boon for all motorists and, in general, the local economy.

The new pump prices for diesel and regular gasoline is not only aimed at getting back to its gas stations motorcycle owners and tricycle drivers but also car owners.

Aside from the fact that diesel and gasoline at Powerzone are cheaper by 34 centavos and P1.08, respectively, compared to that of its three competitors in Virac, car owners and those in the transport and construction business gain more.

The company kept its discount for purchases of at least P500, which means that if you buy P500 worth of fuel, you get a discount of P60, and double that for a P1,000 buy.

For a car owner who buys at least P1,000 worth every week, the discount adds almost another liter into the tank.

According to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) provincial office, only three towns in Catanduanes – Baras, Bato and San Andres – are actually implementing the electronic LGU system, which makes it easier and faster to get business permits, barangay clearances, and working permits.

This contradicts a recent PIA press release which stated that 70 LGUs in the Bicol region have automated their frontline services, including six (6) in Catanduanes.

On the other hand, the eLGU system allows Filipinos to remotely access an LGU’s website and its services, potentially saving time and resources in securing business permits and licenses, get their Community Tax Certificates, and secure certificates from the Local Civil Registry.

The other eight municipalities, particularly Virac, should work double time to have the eLGU system working before the last quarter of the year.

A FARMER’S PROBLEM. A farmer walks up to the front door of a neighboring farmhouse and knocks. A boy about 10 years old answers the door, “Good morning,” the boy says.

“Good morning.” says the farmer. “Is your father home?”

The boy replies, “No, he left for town half an hour ago.”

“Is your mother home?” asks the farmer.

“No, she went into town with Pa,” the boy says.

“Is your brother Jimmy here?” the farmer asks.

The boy says, “No, he went with Pa and Ma. Is there something I can help you with?”

The farmer pauses for a few moments, then he says, “Well, my daughter is pregnant, and apparently your brother is the father….”

“You’ll need to talk to Pa about that,” the boy says. “I know he charges $100 for the pig and $500 for the bull, but I don’t know what he charges for Jimmy.”
