Capitol starts preps for 9th Abaca Festival

ABACA FESTIVAL PREPARATIONS are kickstarted by last week’s meeting of the organizing committee co-chaired by PBM Jose Romeo Francisco and Provincial Tourism Officer Carmel Bonifacio-Garcia with other participating agencies and stakeholders at the SP Session Hall.

Preparations for the 9th Abaca Festival have been commenced following the meeting conducted by the provincial government and key agencies last April 14, 2025 at the Sanggunian Panlalawigan Session Hall to map out plans for this year’s celebration.

With the theme “Kusog nin Islang Maogma: Pinagtibay nin Abaca,” the festival will showcase the island’s strength, unity, and resilience—rooted in its thriving abaca industry. Highlights of the event include the 4th Arte Isla Art Exhibit, the Agricultural, Trade and Tourism Fair, the Drum and Lyre Competition, and the vibrant Street Dance Competition. Additional activities are still being finalized to complete the festival lineup. Now in its ninth year, the Abaca Festival continues to celebrate local culture, boost tourism, and foster a deeper sense of community pride throughout the island.

PBM Jose Romeo Francisco, who chairs the organizing committee, and Provincial Tourism Officer Carmel Bonifacio-Garcia received inputs from the representatives of various partner agencies in crafting the schedule of events.
