PNP forensic unit to examine human bones found in Pandan

A skeletal analysis will be conducted by the PNP Catanduanes Provincial Forensic Unit on the human bones discovered by construction workers in Marambong, Pandan last week.

Pandan police personnel said in a report to Camp Francisco Camacho that a concerned citizen informed the police of the remains found at the construction site beside the barangay hall in the afternoon of April 3, 2025.

Investigators who responded to the report was told by construction worker Pito Eugenio, 26, of Tariwara, that they were excavating the ground when they came upon the skeletal remains of a person.

A longtime resident of the barangay, widow Lileosa Interior, 77, disclosed that the area has been vacant since 1980 because residents were afraid of building a house there as it was near the sea and prone to calamities.

Meanwhile, a native of Panganiban town accused of murder almost 25 years ago has been arrested in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

One of the town’s Municipal Most Wanted Person, Sonny Lopez Cabrera, 42, jobless and formerly of barangay Maculiw, was apprehended on March 29, 2025 at 2:27 PM inside the Sta. Rosa Mega Cockpit by elements of the Panganiban MPS led by assistant chief of police PCpt. Denver Romero, together with the Catanduanes 2nd Mobile Force Company headed by PCMS James Mabini and the Sta. Rosa Component City Police Station led by PCpt. Andy Besana.

His capture was covered by a warrant of arrest issued on Sept. 3, 2008 by then Virac Regional Trial Court Branch 42 Presiding Judge Genie Gapas-Agbada under Criminal Case No. 2987 for murder and another one issued by then RTC Branch 43 Presiding Judge Lelu Contreras on April 3, 2013 under Criminal Case No. 2988, with no bail recommended.

RTC records show that the alleged incident for which the fugitive was charged occurred in 2000.

The Tribune tried to secure information on the incident for which Cabrera was accused but the Panganiban police station’s investigator claimed their case folder was with the local court.
